This is a driving app to display and speak message signs on Motorways and other roads. The app operates in the background, speaking and displaying a message sign via a pop-up or a notification. The main app if run normally displays a GPS speedometer and when the car approaches a message displays and speaks the message on the sign. It also has a button that allows operation in the background to be disabled and enabled. The primary intention however is that the app runs in the background allowing the phone to operate with any other app for example navigation or music. Once installed the app will continue to run at all times monitoring the location of the car and generating a warning when the car approaches a message sign speaking and displaying the message, for example, "Accident Ahead Slow Down". The app will run automatically if the phone is restarted. In the background, it has two modes of operation, freestanding or Android Auto, connected to the car. In freestanding mode when a message sign is encountered on a vehicles route the message will be spoken and displayed in a pop-up box over any app that is running. If the screen is dark it will be woken up to display the message. The message will be displayed for approx 10 to 20 seconds. If music is playing it will be paused while the message is spoken. In Android Auto mode the message is spoken if music is playing it will be paused while the message is spoken. The objective is to operate quietly in the background, alerting a driver when this is a hazard on the route ahead. To operate properly three permissions have to be manually selected by a user Location - Allow All the TimeBattery - Allow Background Activity Appear on top - On When the app is installed the setting screen is opened up so these permissions can be selected. Although the app constantly checks the phone location to operate in practice it uses very little power, only speaking and activating the screen when it needs to alert a driver. This version of the app is limited to UK National Highways VMS on the M25, around Manchester and around Birmingham.
